About John Boyega


John Boyega Biography

John Boyega is a British actor and producer born on 17th March 1992 in Peckham, London. He is best known for his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in which he takes the character of Finn. In his native UK homeland, he became famous due to the sci-fi film Attack the Block. He has also been credited for Half of a Yellow Sun (2013), Imperial Dram and 24: Live Another Day.

He started acting while still in primary school where his first role saw him depicted as a leopard. He attended Oliver Goldsmith Primary School. It was in this school that he became interested in acting. At one time he was acting on a play and Teresa Early, the artistic director of Theatre Peckham, noticed his skills. He was then provided with hardship fund so that he could join theatre where he spent his time from 9 to 14 years old. His father was a preacher and always wanted Boyega to also become a preacher. But when he saw his son interested in theatre, he did not hesitate to support him.

He joined Westminster City School in 2003 for his secondary education where he participated in numerous school productions. After graduating from high school, he went to South Thames College, Wands worth campus where he took a National Diploma in Performing Arts. Some of the things he did at the college include taking part in the production of Othello, a college production. He then went to University of Greenwich where he studied Bachelor of Arts Film Studies & Media Writing. However, he did not study to end as he dropped out to concentrate on his acting career.

Before he was offered a role in the film Attack the Block (2011), Boyega had performed in Six Parties at the National Theatre and also went to the Tricycle Theatre to act in Category B.
